Getting homework assignments completed and turned in to the teacher on time is important for any student who wants to do well in school. Regardless of how many courses a student takes during junior high school, high school, or even college, keeping track of what is due on certain dates will help the student to keep ahead and not fall behind in the coursework.

One useful tool for keeping track of homework assignments is a pocket-sized date-book with enough lines next to each date for assignments due to be written, as well as any other extra-curricular events in the student's life. This date-book should be carried to class so if the teacher gives an assignment in class, the student can immediately write down what the assignment is on the date that it is due. Reading assignments should also be written down in the date-book. Second, the student should take a look at the date-book at least one week ahead of time to see what is due the following week.

Assignments that are due on Monday should be completed at least the night before, if they are not completed on the previous Friday night. Any subjects the student struggles with should be given some extra time to, especially if the assignment has any difficult formulas that require answers, such as math or science. Assignments such as reflection or research papers should never be left to the last minute to complete because projects like these require time to gather notes, think, write, and edit before it is time to hand these in to the teacher. For the papers, allow at least one week in advance to start writing, and most teachers do give their students a decent length of time to do the necessary work on the paper. Research papers that require looking up books and journals in the library and reading them should also be included in the assignment date-book. An hour each day spent on reading material for the paper is sufficient enough. Make notes when doing the reading for the paper and the source of the notes - the book title, author, publisher, and date - should be written on each page of notes.

Neatness counts! Any written assignments should be typed up on a word processor, and math and science homework can be done the same way, too. Teachers do not have a lot of time to waste trying to decipher student's handwriting while correcting assignments. Lastly, students should take short breaks in between homework assignments. A sample schedule might read as follows:

8:00 PM - 8:50 PM   Physics homework and reading assignment

9:00 PM - 9:50 PM   Latin (or other language) homework and grammar reading

10:00 PM - 10:50 PM   English Literature reading assignment

A good consistent homework routine for a student means he will take this things as staple and theryby effortless. Morevoer, he can have more fun doing his games, reading or what knowing he has done what is required of him.
