Finding The Right Financial Aid Scholarship

  By Melgrace Abandula

Finding The Right Financial Aid Scholarship

You can be highly qualified for as many financial aid scholarships as you can ever imagine. The key here is to effectively tag yourself. By knowing who you really are as well as your capabilities and potential, you can be able to find the right financial aid scholarship for you. Eager to bag that award? Here are some areas by which you can find financial aid scholarships.

College Degree

Schools, academic departments as well as other professional organizations offer financial aid scholarships for college students based on their degree majors. As early as in your senior year in high school, you can start looking for scholarships in subject areas that you think you excel in or consider taking in college.

If you are a double major, you can also check under the two majors to ensure that you do not miss anything. Try not to be specific. For instance, if your major is in Chemistry, you can search for financial aid scholarships under ‘Science' or ‘Physical Sciences'. Moreover, if you are majoring in English, you can search for financial aid scholarships under the categories ‘English or ¡°Literature', or other categories with a wider scope such as ‘Humanities'.

In addition, you may want to include which career path you want to take as well. Whether you like to pursue a career in banking, journalism, law, medicine or teaching, you can find financial aid scholarships that can help you pursue your dream career, your major notwithstanding.

Student Affiliations

Your affiliation or involvement in clubs and organizations can help you qualify for a financial aid scholarship as well, whether you are an officer or a member. Many clubs sponsor scholarships that you can avail of.

Aside from that, think of your hobbies, special skills and talents or sports that you are good at. Religious and youth involvement as well as part-time work can also lea
d you to financial aid scholarships as well.

Location of Residence/Study

A lot of state governments provide financial aid scholarships to many in-state students. By establishing your state of residency and/or state of study even in your freshman year in school may make you eligible for any of these scholarships. You may want to check with your residence state or your state college for available scholarship offerings.

Moreover, many private organizations also provide state financial aid scholarships based on a student's academic performance or extra-curricular involvement. There are also a number of scholarships for specific county or city residents too.

Ethnic/Minority Group

Financial Aid Scholarships are also given to students of particular ethnic background or who belong to a certain minority group. Most of these scholarships do not necessarily require you to be a full-blooded member of an ethnic or minority group. Even if you have a mixed background, you can still find scholarships for every group. You can also search for scholarships that cater to a broader ethnic group such as ‘Hispanic' or ‘Asian'.

Foreign Students

You can get a financial aid scholarship if you are a national of a country outside of the US as well. There are scholarships that may be restricted to those coming from certain countries and there are awards that cater more to international students. You can look for scholarships for both these categories.

The trick to finding financial aid scholarship is to consider wider options. Assess yourself and know where you exactly fit. By knowing which area you best qualify for, you can be able to find just the right financial aid scholarship that you need.

Disability

There are also many financial aid scholarships for physically-incapable students or those with learning disabilities or are suffering from long-term sickness. You can find scholarships for disabled students or awards listed under ‘disability' or ‘illness'.

I really wanted to avail of scholarships during my college days. I passed the exams but my mom's yearly income disqualified me ... knowing that a scholar is a great line in one's resume.

I envy those who got one since most of them got hired by their private sponsors after college.

really? sorry to hear about that agacarl. may i know what particular financial aid scholarships you applied and passed the exams? i think there are still a lot of options for you to choose like availing from private sponsors regardless of your mom's yearly income.

Although, she has been able to give a moderate overview of what to bear in mind when nursing the move of seeking the appropriate financial aid scholarship but for someone seriously and in need of what to do and doesn't even know how think for him or herself may find this article a bit unfattomable. To improve this article, precise and straightforward steps need to be included.
